Nikon Wants Photography to Feel Less Intimidating and My Wallet Has Questions

I have a particularly soft spot for any company that looks at a complicated hobby and asks whether people might enjoy it more without an entrance exam. Photography could certainly use that intervention. Somewhere between noticing a beautiful summer sunset and buying a camera, an innocent person can find themselves watching a forty-minute argument about sensor readout while wondering whether they were ever qualified to appreciate clouds. So Nikon has my attention with the Z5IIC, a camera pitched toward people who want to move beyond their phones without immediately becoming unpaid interns in the optical engineering department. I like the premise. I also notice that the camera industry has spent years selling us more buttons, more settings, and more reasons to question ourselves. Now making that experience less intimidating is apparently a selling point. A little self-awareness would photograph beautifully here.
